“The Malifaux Orphanage for Sick Children” on The Breachside Broadcast
A few years back, I wrote a story for Wyrd Miniatures. Wyrd is a games company that makes a tabletop miniature war game called Malifaux. Malifaux is set in a Victorian-gothic-steampunk alternate reality. My story was called “The Malifaux Orphanage for Sick Children” and appeared in the Storm of Shadows supplement manual.
Wyrd is now rereleasing all the fiction from the original manuals in the form of a podcast called The Breachside Broadcast. You can hear my story on episode 39, read by my friend Ian Travis. You don’t need to be familiar with the game to enjoy the story. The only piece of context you really need is that Soulstones are a source of magical power in Malifaux, and they’re recharged by the souls of dying people.
